A warm and welcoming road riders cycling club, this is a great bunch for those just starting to cycle. They specialize in training rides for charity events.

DirtChix are a group of women mountain bikers, mostly from LA and Ventura County (but they welcome people from all areas of California) Their rides have a primary focus on the Santa Monica Mountains. Right now, they are about 200 strong, and counting. They have all levels and ages of riders.

I've been a member of this group pretty much since it's inception, and I can honestly say that I adore this group. They are VERY supportive and welcoming. Their rides are fun and social, with a great "we're all in this together" spirit.

You can join the fun, by signing up for their yahoo groups (they regularly post women's only rides on their calender, which is available to members). BTW, it's free to join; the only requirement is that you are a woman with an interest in mountain biking.

Why? Think poison oak, rattlers, ticks, etc, being needlessly exposed to your nether-regions. Think porta-potties, and public restrooms by the beach. Visit the website. They're great; changed my life. 'nuff said.
